What is powder coating?The definition of powder paint application consists of the process of painting a surface where the paint is in powder form and application equipment (guns) is used that transmits an electrical charge to the paint so that it can be adhered to the pieces. Once the piece is covered with paint, there is a baking process where the paint is brought to its melting point. The already liquefied paint flows over the surface, thus forming a uniform layer on the piece, and solidifies into a firm, durable finish that is resistant to scratches, cracking, blistering, ultraviolet rays, and oxidation.

What are the advantages of powder coating?Quality: The characteristics of powder paint allow it to have a consistency and uniform finish superior to other paints, avoiding lack of paint, drip marks, dripping paint and bubbles. They provide extremely resistant finishes giving added value to the products. In general, the performance of powder paint in properties such as impact resistance, flexibility, and corrosion resistance are superior to those of liquid paint. Powder paint allows resistance to cracking and detachment during the useful life of the product, this being a property that is used as marketing when offering a product with powder paint for its image of resistance. Economic: The application of powder paint generally represents a saving compared to the application of liquid paint with respect to energy costs, labor, rework costs, use of raw materials, confinement and efficiency; a superior finish is obtained at a reasonable cost. Environmental: Powder coating complies with environmental regulations. The liquid counterpart generally contains solvents that contribute to air pollution. Powder paint is free of these contaminants and does not generate waste.

What causes the lack of paint adhesion?Lack of paint adhesion can generally be for two reasons: poor chemical pre-treatment, and a possible lack of oven curing. To prevent the chemical pre-treatment from being deficient, make sure to carry out periodic titrations of the vats and that the oil to be removed from the piece is water soluble and silicone free. To validate whether it is a lack of curing, it is recommended that a thermography be carried out to ensure that the piece reaches the temperature indicated in the paint's technical sheet for the recommended time.

How can I prevent the threads or certain parts of a part from being painted?It is customary to use plugs, caps and tapes that resist the temperature of the curing oven, they are used to prevent the paint from adhering to critical parts of the piece and are removed at the end of the painting process. The vast majority of caps and caps are reusable and are at the customer's request.

What is the Faraday Cage effect?The Faraday Cage occurs in corners where there are walls at 90°. These corners form an electromagnetic field that prevents the paint from being deposited normally. To avoid the Faraday Cage and ensure that the piece is covered in paint, the voltage parameters of the paint equipment must be adjusted and a manual touch-up applied in these areas.
